The Fawcett Collection

Ontario.
We have been asked
by John and Mary Fawcett of Dundas Ont. to sell their collection of antiques,
put together over the past 40 plus years. Their collection will feature an
extensive offering of items associated with one of Canada’s earliest icons, the
Beaver. Initially a trade staple of the early fur traders and
settlers, later to become a significant part of our coat of arms and heraldry
throughout the history of our nation. Many of the items are shown in
Nigel and Donna Hutchins recent book “The Maple Leaf Forever”. In
addition to the collection of beaver related items, we will offer a selection
of American and Canadian patterned glass including several pieces of Westward
Ho, a Hamilton Glass Co. glass chain, several glass canes, several American and
Canadian glass covered comports including some with animal motifs, a small
offering of furniture, several coloured coal oil lamps, a cast iron slant shade
hanging lamp with beaver font, textiles to include quilts, a small but
important collection of sealers and to include Beaver in amber and clear
including a clear glass 1 pint Beaver facing left and examples of the
Rose, Star, Beehive, Best and Beavers in clear with some amber examples, a
small collection of bottles with the beaver motif, iron stone china, a
Rockingham glazed tea pot with a beaver finial attributed to a Quebec pottery,
decorated stone ware, red ware crocks, etc. Items that fall under the Beaver
category will include a Beaver goblet, cast iron beavers including stove doors,
wooden butter prints, carved wooden beavers, a quantity of both Furnival and F.
T. Thomas Quebec series dishes including some in colour, Beaver tiles,
collectible tins, shields and wall plaques, etc.
